Welcome to the Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club

Our mission

The Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club provides the opportunity for children and adult members to participate in the sport of speed skating in a fun and supportive environment. Through our volunteers, we ensure that our members are able to challenge themselves, improve their skills and socialize in a safe and responsible manner.

Come and try the exciting sport of short track speed skating with us!

Our club wants to make it easy for children, teenagers, and adults to come out and give speed skating a try. We offer 3 one hour “try it” sessions for $30, which includes coaching and speed skates. These sessions are available to anyone during the speed skating season (which runs from September to March). If you decide to join our club after three sessions, the $30 dollars will be subtracted from your fees for the season. For information about our fees please click on the “information” tab above. If you decide to join midway through our season, your fees will be prorated.

To arrange a “try it” session, please email us at communication@banffcanmorespeedskating.ca and we will contact you to set up a skate fitting appointment and make arrangements for your first “try it” session.

Annual General Meeting - Friday, April 10th at 5:30 pm

The Annual General Meeting for the Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club will be held on, Friday, April 10th, at 5:30 pm, in the Canmore Collegiate High SchoolRoom 1214. The Canmore High School is located at1800 8th Avenue. The AGM lasts 45 minutes which involves a review of the past year's activities, an opportunity to review the finances of our club, and the election of the Board of Directors. Our club’s Board of Directors is comprised of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and four  Directors.

Please make every effort to attend this meeting as we need at least 25% of our membership (at least 15 voting members) to constitute a quorum. No quorum means no board, which means no club! The minutes from last year’s AGM and the agenda for this year’s AGM are attached.

During this meeting the high school gymnasium will be open for our children to play. We will need a few parents to supervise age appropriate games to make sure all of our kids are playing safely and having fun.

Our year end party and awards will follow right after the AGM in the same room, Room 1214, with pizza and refreshments being served. Awards and certificates for both competitive and recreational skaters will follow. Guaranteed to be a great night!

For those of you who have not yet returned your skates, glasses, etc., please bring to meeting. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there.
