Welcome to the Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club

Our mission

The Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club provides the opportunity for children and adult members to participate in the sport of speed skating in a fun and supportive environment. Through our volunteers, we ensure that our members are able to challenge themselves, improve their skills and socialize in a safe and responsible manner.

Come and try the exciting sport of short track speed skating with us!

Our club wants to make it easy for children, teenagers, and adults to come out and give speed skating a try. We offer 3 one hour “try it” sessions for $30, which includes coaching and speed skates. These sessions are available to anyone during the speed skating season (which runs from September to March). If you decide to join our club after three sessions, the $30 dollars will be subtracted from your fees for the season. For information about our fees please click on the “information” tab above. If you decide to join midway through our season, your fees will be prorated.

To arrange a “try it” session, please email us at communication@banffcanmorespeedskating.ca and we will contact you to set up a skate fitting appointment and make arrangements for your first “try it” session.

Upcoming Events

8th Annual Canmore Team Challenge - February 7th

The second of the two competitions we host annually is coming up on Saturday February 7th.

This competition is only open to T2T skaters and younger, so it is a youth oriented event.
What makes this competition unique from other competitions, is that it is limited to only 65 skaters, we only invite skaters from Rocky Mountain House and Calgary. This allows us to have a late starting time, and still provide the skaters with the opportunity to race 5 times throughout the day.
Warm ups start at 10:30am and racing finishes just after 4pm. The skaters will get to race 5 times throughout the day.

This is a great meet for a skaters first competition, the late start, racing at home, the opportunity to race in front of family and friends. If you would like to enter, please do so on the Competition Entry Sign Up page, and complete the attached Registration form and return to Ian Mellors by Wednesday February 4th.

Despite this being a smaller meet, 65 skaters, compared to 130 at our December meet, the number of volunteers we require is the same. If you currently have no plans for the day, please consider signing up to volunteer. The link to the volunteer sheet is: https://www.volunteersignup.org/34DJH.

Competition Sign-Up

In addition to attending our regular training sessions, all of our skaters are encouraged to participate in our Club Race Nights and to complete in various local and provincial meets that are scheduled throughout this season. If you are interested in registering for any of our upcoming race nights or competitions, please click here. Scroll down the page to your name and select 'Yes' from the pull-down menu for any competition that you wish to enter.
